In this episode (131), Liz and Heather sit down to discuss Growing Up Geek, based on an article from Buzzfeed, 27 Things Only People Who Grew Up Nerdy Understand. We expand on their ideas with memories of our own geeky upbringings and some of the things we wish we could forget!
In episode 130 we bring you the new series 'Does if Hold Up?' where we re-visit some our our favorite movies as children and teenagers, then seeing if we still love them in present day and from adult eyes.
What was not to love about Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead? Was it the MC Hammer Pants and severe Shoulders of the early 90's? Maybe... but Liz and Heather went down some memory lanes with their favorites of the era. Does anyone remember Units (hint: think of modular clothing).
Also remember fax machines? Holy crap!
And when HR didn't require job interviews or identification before you were hired? No... us either.
Listen in as we reminisce and ask... Does it Hold Up?
It's time for our first ever Flashback! Today, we are looking back to 2016, when we decided that we needed to bring in some experts to school us on topics where we were unfamiliar. This first one is Flashback: Intro to Anime! Way back in Episode 37, we brought in Eileen and Ofelia to tell us all about their love for anime and why we should enjoy it! They also give us and the audience some shows to start with if you are interested in getting into anime... oh and the difference between Anime and Manga.
n episode 125 we wrap up Batmonth - we end it on top with Batman done right! Christopher Nolan makes an as-close-to-perfect Batman series as we can ever hope to get (ok ok Heather is obviously the one writing this post - it doesn't make it less true).
In Episode 124, Heather and Liz take on one of the most popular runs of Batman. Batman Hush by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. This was quite the undertaking with 12 individual comics and about 1300 villians all playing a part in the Hush mystery. <Massive Spoilers in the podcast>
Welcome to week 2 of Batmonth! In Episode 123 we look into the movie series that sucked us in! Warner Bros. rebooted the Batman Franchise with Tim Burton directing the first live action Batman in over 20 years. Batman (1989) gave us Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. The sequel, Batman Returns, shows us the not-so-catburgler-like Michelle Phfeffer kicking some Bat Ass and taking Names. We also learn that Liz has some difficulty relating to the character of Penguin, hmm, curious as to why that is?
We don’t stop there, we include for your listening pleasure the unparalleled Joel Schumacher films in the Series as we discuss crotch-shots, man-nipples and….. oh yeah… there is some Batman talk in there too.
Liz and Heather get a little silly reminiscing about the campy themes, leotards, and outfit coordinated henchmen. I mean, how does one recruit an entire hench-mob team of hockey players to do ones bidding?
In this week's episode (Episode 121), Liz and Heather pull back the curtain on the podcast to talk about some of the things that we have missed or forgotten on previous episodes...
Episode 119 - This week Liz and Heather talk about Moms! We are joined with Jennifer Tracy of Milf Podcast and we dive deep into common tropes and stereotypes of mothers in pop culture as well as a frank discussion on representation in media, mom cliques, and doggy surnames for those of us who are dog moms.
In this episode, Heather and Liz pick apart the WORST ADVICE EVER given (commonly!) to the people of the interwebs, our lovely listeners, and ourselves. Send us a note after the episode to let us know YOUR worst advice ever received!
